Most people overlook the importance of adding their resume to their LinkedIn profile, which can hinder their job search efforts. Having a resume on LinkedIn can help you get noticed by recruiters and apply for jobs more efficiently. According to the North Dakota State University Career and Advising Center, there are two ways to add your resume to LinkedIn: uploading it to your profile and when you apply for a job via LinkedIn.

Step 1: Create a Resume and Download it to Your Computer
Before you start, you'll need to create a resume and download it to your computer. This will make it easier to upload to LinkedIn. As stated by the UConn Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills, your resume should provide select information about your background, credentials, accomplishments, and qualifications relevant to the industry and profession you aim for in your next role. Use a tool like Microsoft Word or Google Docs to create your resume, and save it as a PDF or Word document.

Step 2: Upload Your Resume to Your LinkedIn Profile
To upload your resume to your LinkedIn profile, go to your profile page and click on the pencil icon in the top portion to edit your profile. A dialog box will open, including the edit fields for the entire top portion of your profile. As mentioned by Interroadvisory, you can then click on the "Upload" button to add your resume to your profile. Make sure to save your changes after uploading your resume.

Step 3: Align Your Resume with Your LinkedIn Profile
It's essential to align your resume with your LinkedIn profile to create a robust overview of your experience and skills. According to the American College of Healthcare Executives, you should use your "everyday" name on both your resume and LinkedIn profile, and ensure that job titles, organization names, position titles, and dates match on both. You should also include or exclude education dates consistently between each medium.

Step 4: Optimize Your Resume for Easy Apply
LinkedIn's Easy Apply feature allows you to quickly apply for jobs with your uploaded resume. To optimize your resume for Easy Apply, make sure it is up-to-date and tailored to the job you're applying for. As stated by Coursera, you can treat your LinkedIn profile like a resume, listing your work experience, educational background, and skills for recruiters to view.

Before you start, make sure you have a LinkedIn account and a created resume. Having a complete and accurate LinkedIn profile will help you get the most out of adding your resume.

What to do right now: Go to your LinkedIn profile and click on the pencil icon to edit your profile, then upload your resume to get started with enhancing your profile and applying for jobs.
